United for Youth: Partnerships in Education Convening

Wednesday, April 28, 1:00 - 5:00 pm, In-Person

Join us as we come together to reaffirm our shared commitment to the United for Youth plan.

In the face of an evolving and uncertain landscape, this event offers a space to connect, learn, and move forward with purpose.

At this gathering, we will recommit to achieving the goals of the United for Youth Plan, even in this uncertain environment:

  • We'll receive expert guidance by Dr. Rebecca Mendiola, CEO and Co-Founder of Collective Impact Solutions, on the new funding formula
  • We’ll hear from nonprofits on how they continue to operate within this current landscape, and from cross-sector partners on how they have supported these broader initiatives
  • We'll launch the new United for Youth Nonprofit Community of Practice, co-facilitated by SMCOE and Thrive Alliance

AGENDA

  • Welcome & Overview from Co-Hosting Organizations
  • Special Remarks from Marco Chávez, County Superintendent of Schools
  • Keynote & Training: The Future of Funding, Dr. Rebecca Mendiola
  • Context Setting: Local Nonprofit Landscape, Georgia Farooq, CEO, Thrive Alliance
  • Panel Discussion: Nonprofits Navigating a Complex Mental Health Terrain
  • Connection Activity & Networking Reception

BACKGROUND

Emerging from the work of the Coalition for Safe Schools and Communities and the broader United for Youth: Vision 2030 Plan of Action effort, Partnerships in Education convenings bring together education leaders, nonprofits, philanthropy, health partners, and government to strengthen collaboration and advance a holistic approach to youth well-being. In 2025, the series included two gatherings: the Convening on Partnerships in Education, which introduced the United For Youth: Vision 2030 Plan of Action, and the Partnerships in Education Summit, which brought together nearly 250 attendees to highlight local nonprofit efforts supporting youth mental health through community cultural wealth, healing practices, and cross-sector partnerships. This year, the San Mateo County Office of Education, Thrive Alliance, and the Haas Center for Public Service at Stanford University are partnering to recommit to achieving the goals of the United for Youth plan, even in this uncertain environment.
