Domestic Violence Dynamics Training

Join us for a comprehensive training, led by Maríluisa Diaz, Manager of Community Education & Outreach at CORA (Community Overcoming Relationship Abuse) on the dynamics of Domestic Violence (DV) and Intimate Partner Violence (IPV). This interactive session will delve into crucial topics such as DV statistics, family court restraining orders, red flags, barriers to leaving an abusive relationship, cultural humility, role-play scenarios, and supporting those experiencing IPV.
By attending this workshop, you will gain a deeper understanding of the intricate layers of stressors survivors face and develop skills to support them through a trauma-informed lens. We will also explore the emerging threat of tech-enabled abuse, shedding light on its various components and providing insights on how to navigate the ever-evolving world of technology.
The goal of this session is to allow attendees to:
- Gain a deeper understanding of intimate partner violence
- Examine barriers survivors face and trauma symptoms in IPV relationships
- Identify reasons why survivors stay in abusive relationships
- Utilize the Power and Control Model to comprehend the cycle of domestic violence
- Explore the overall impact of domestic violence on survivors, families, and communities
- Understand the process of obtaining domestic violence restraining orders

Meet Our Facilitator
Maríluisa Diaz (she/her), Manager of Community Education & Outreach at CORA
Maríluisa joined the CORA team in April 2017 with over 14 years of experience in the domestic violence field. Highlights of Mariluisa’s experience includes work with DV agencies and police departments, working in DV clinics, providing court accompaniment, advocacy, crisis counseling, and outreach. As the Prevention and Education Manager at CORA, Maríluisa continues that passion and commitment by working with the community to increase public awareness of domestic abuse. She believes in the importance of educating the public on the risk factors of abuse and strengthening community engagement in healthy and safe relationships. Maríluisa holds a B.A. in Politics from the University of San Francisco. She has also received Cultural Humility facilitator training created by Melanie Tervalon M.D., M.P.H and Jann Murray- García M.D., M.P.H.
