Thrive RISE February Meeting
Comprehensive School Safety: Applying Global Lessons in School Safety to San Mateo County
Wednesday, February 28, 10:00 - 11:00 am, Virtual
Children often face disproportionate impacts in disaster to their physical safety, health, socio-emotional wellbeing, and access to education and support networks. Child-centered approaches are key to disaster planning throughout the education sector, as well as within local and state government, and community-serving nonprofits.
Join this discussion to learn how you can support safe learning environments for children in our communities. Marla Petal, Principal Advisor for School Safety and Resilience for Save the Children, will discuss how education stakeholders across the globe are applying the Comprehensive School Safety (CSS) framework to make their children safer in emergencies. Mason Hendricks, Coordinator for School Safety & Risk Prevention for the County of San Mateo Office of Education, will then speak to the trailblazing emergency management work his office has done for San Mateo County schools.
