Healing Circles At Miramar Farms

Friday, February 3, Lunch: 12:00 - 1:00 pm; Healing Circle: 1:00 - 3:00 pm, In-Person

Since the beginning of the year, San Mateo County has been hit with devastating rains and floods, impacting individuals and families across the community. With the recent tragic shooting in Half Moon Bay and the loss of 7 lives, the nonprofit community has had to rally again to provide critical support and care. It has been a lot and you all have carried a great deal over the last several years and now again as you have been called into action with the flooding and shooting of members in this community.

Thrive would like to offer you an opportunity to come together in community with each other to heal and to be cared for. We have engaged Jenny Niklaus from ALF Insights, the consulting arm of American Leadership Forum Silicon Valley, and long-time nonprofit leader and advocate, to lead us in two Healing Circles on Friday, February 3rd at Miramar Farms in Half Moon Bay. Miramar Farms is a local retreat location and sustainable farm. It is a beautiful and healing location. We are so grateful to Mark and Jayne Battey, Owners and Founders of Miramar Farms, for hosting us in this space.

We will meet at 12:00 pm for lunch and connection, and the Healing Circle will begin promptly at 1:00 pm. The circle will be 2 hours in length. The focus of the circle is to provide:
  • A safe space to be in dialogue with other nonprofit leaders about the challenge and weight of responding to community crises.
  • A chance to think about impact at the individual, organizational, and sector-wide levels.
  • An opportunity to decompress through guided mindfulness-based meditation.

Jenny will work with the healing circle to build agreements and boundaries and will gently guide participants through a process that supports the needs of all in the room.

Nonprofit executives and direct service staff serving San Mateo County are invited to register for a space in this special program. Carpooling is encouraged.

We will prioritize nonprofit participants whose organizations have been most impacted by these recent emergencies.

Please note that this is a space for community healing. We recognize that events like the one we experienced this past week can be particularly painful for some. If you are struggling and/or feel like you need more support than this circle can provide, please let us know and we will provide you with mental health referrals.

Meet the Facilitator

Jennifer Niklaus, MA, LMFT

Passionate, mission-driven, innovative, empathetic, and fun-loving are just some of the words that have been used to describe Jenny’s approach to her life and work in the nonprofit sector in Santa Clara County for the last 20+ years.

Jenny began her career at Community Solutions with women and children who were victims of violence, continuing that work for a decade, first with the YWCA of Santa Clara County and then Support Network for Battered Women. Jenny still considers this work some of the most powerful and personally impactful of her career.

After having a tremendous impact in the field of ending violence against women and children, Jenny moved to work with those living in poverty by becoming part of the leadership staff at Sacred Heart Community Service and Catholic Charities. This work eventually led to her becoming the CEO of HomeFirst where she led the agency for a total of six years.

During her time at HomeFirst, Jenny was fortunate to become a Senior Fellow at  American Leadership Forum Silicon Valley (ALFSV). Jenny was then asked to become the Chief Impact Officer where she worked to support leaders to use their leadership as a catalyst for dynamic social change. During her time at ALFSV, Jenny has been able to successfully engage two single-issue networks within ALFSV: Education and Urban Innovation for Downtown San Jose. Jenny is currently the Principal Facilitator for impact groups on race equity, housing, climate change, and philanthropy. In addition, she is the Chief Facilitation Officer for ALFSV’s facilitation services, ALF Insights

Jenny received her BA in Psychology from the University of California at Davis and a  MA in Counseling Psychology from Santa Clara University. She is a Licensed  Marriage and Family Therapist and Certified Yoga Instructor. She lives in downtown  San Jose with her dog Maggie.
