Hot Topics, Cool Solutions: Community Resilience During Heatwaves
Tuesday, August 29, 2:00 - 3:30 pm, In-Person
Sobrato Center for Nonprofits, Bay Room, 330 Twin Dolphin Dr, Redwood City
Join our "fishbowl" conversation with voices including Nuestra Casa, Healthways, Senior Coastsiders, North Fair Oaks Community Alliance, Climate Resilient Communities, and more!
Heat can have severe health implications, especially for vulnerable populations such as the elderly, young children, and those with pre-existing medical conditions. Come to our collaborative community brainstorm where we discuss what nonprofits and government resources currently exist to support community resilience during heatwaves. You will have an opportunity to share your thoughts about what is most effective, and what you would like to see from both the community and the local government.
Berkeley Lab scientists have forecasted that by the end of the century, high heat events in the Bay Area could become up to six degrees warmer. How can we as a community come together to prepare for current high heat events and the even hotter future? Is what we are doing now adequate? What more should we do to protect our most vulnerable?
Note: This event is free to attend, but registration is required. If you require any other forms of accessibility to fully participate in our event, please let us know, and we will make every effort to accommodate your needs. Contact Deyah El-Azhari.
