Candidate Forum for Children's Issues:
Board of Supervisors, 2nd & 3rd Districts

Thrive Alliance and Choose Children 2022, a project of Silicon Valley Community Foundation, invite you to attend a forum for candidates for San Mateo County Board of Supervisors Districts 2 and 3 to discuss critical children’s issues and their plans to shape a county where children and families can thrive.
If you are concerned about the issues facing children, including affordable and high-quality child care and learning environments, the effects of COVID-19 on parents, teachers and learners, and the mental health of children and families, plan on attending this forum to learn where the candidates stand on these issues and their plans for addressing them.
The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors oversees county departments, programs, and property, with an annual budget of over $3 billion dollars.
Featuring: Steven Booker, Virginia Chang Kiraly, Noelia Corzo, Ray Mueller, Laura Parmer-Lohan, Charles Stone, and Cameron Rolfe.

All districts have changed since the 2020 census report and the redistricting process that followed.
District 3 includes the cities of Atherton, Southeast Belmont, Half Moon Bay, Pacifica, Portola Valley, San Carlos, and Woodside, Unincorporated Devonshire Canyon, El Granada, Emerald Lake Hills, Harbor Industrial Park, La Honda, Ladera, Loma Mar, Los Trancos Woods, Miramar, Montara, Moss Beach, Palomar Park, Pescadero, Princeton By-The-Sea, San Gregorio, Skyline, Skylonda, Stanford Lands, Vista Verde, and West Menlo Park.
District 2 includes the cities of San Mateo, Foster City, and most of Belmont (excluding the southeast portion).
Note: If any candidate receives 50% plus one of the votes, the race will be decided in June.
Thrive, in partnership with other nonprofits, is hosting a series of candidate forums to elevate the most pressing issues of nonprofits and their communities in San Mateo County.

Christine Padilla, Build up San Mateo County

Christine Padilla, a mother, and lifetime resident of San Mateo County has spent her career at the intersection of service and government, she knows how to work with and within the system to improve children and families' lives. She is currently the Director of Build Up San Mateo County, a countywide partnership that preserves, expands and improves the
supply of child care facilities. She’s also been a nonprofit executive director, a senior congressional staff member and a corporate government relations director. She has served on the San Mateo County's Commission on the Status of Women since 2011 and the Child Care Partnership Council since 2019. She is an appointed member of KQED’s Community Advisory Panel working to ensure diverse community voices are represented throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Christine is committed to making high-quality early care and learning accessible and affordable for working families while supporting and advocating for those who teach and care for their children.

Steven Booker, Steven Booker for Supervisor

Steven Booker was born and raised in the Bay Area and currently lives in Half Moon Bay. He served a tour of duty in the Gulf War as a member of the US Air Force before returning to attend the College of San Mateo. Steven was first accepted into the Electrical Apprenticeship Program in 1998 and worked his way up the ranks
to the position of Political Director & Community Affairs Liaison, where he has served since 2014. Steven is a regular at Board of Supervisors and City Council meetings up and down the Peninsula, advocating for workers’ rights and affordable housing.
Virginia Chang Kiraly, Virginia Chang Kiraly for Supervisor

Virginia Chang Kiraly has extensive experience in both the public and private sectors. Following a 15-year career in corporate financial analysis, planning and investments, she was appointed to the California Commission for Economic Development, where she served from 2007 to 2014. Virginia has continued
serving the community in elected office on both the Menlo Park Fire Protection District since 2011 and the San Mateo County Harbor Board of Commissioners since 2015. She is proud to be the first Asian-American woman to serve on both boards.

Noelia Corzo has lived in District 2 for nearly her entire life and is deeply committed to the community. She is the product of local schools and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from San Francisco State University. After graduating from SFSU, she served foster youth and worked as a community organizer
in support of affordable housing and immigrant rights. Noelia is currently supporting children and adults with developmental disabilities as a social worker for Golden Gate Regional Center (GGRC), a nonprofit organization in San Mateo County. She is the daughter of working-class immigrants and has vast personal and professional experience with the many services our county offers.
Ray Mueller, Ray Mueller for Supervisor

Ray Mueller is a California native and Bay Area resident of over 25 years. He is a third-term Menlo Park City Councilmember, elected citywide in 2012 and 2016, and has served as Mayor twice where he was able to work on projects which have had an impact county-wide. He served as
Menlo Park’s last city-wide elected Councilmember Mayor in 2019 and ran unopposed in the first District 5, City Council election in 2020. Ray attended UC Berkeley as an undergraduate and received his Juris Doctor from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.

Charles Stone, Charles Stone for Supervisor

Charles Stone, San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans) Director, City Councilmember, and two-time Belmont Mayor, is a proud native of San Mateo County and a graduate of Hillsdale High. As County Supervisor, Stone offers experienced, results-oriented leadership to protect the
quality of life for the residents of Belmont, Foster City, and San Mateo during these dynamic times. Stone champions safe, vibrant, and transit-friendly communities for local families through his leadership on SamTrans, where he leads regional efforts to maintain clean air and reduce the impacts of climate change by promoting public transit and traffic management strategies. He is a passionate advocate for affordable workforce housing, public safety, and vibrant neighborhoods that are safe and family friendly.
Cameron Rolfe, Cameron Rolfe for Supervisor

Cameron Rolfe has lived in San Mateo since before it had a ZIP code. He is civic minded, an Eagle Scout, a volunteer in the community, has a boaters’ license, pilot certificates, and was POST credentialed as a Level 2 reserve police officer. Rolfe is also a California Licensed Investigator, with
a career of seeking facts and ferreting out misleading data and skewed information. As District 2's Supervisor, he will equitably represent all of his constituents with an extensive and objective career perspective of ‘just the facts’, making decisions based on those facts, not politics.
