ABOUT THE THRIVING NONPROFIT WORKFORCE INITIATIVE

The Thriving Nonprofit Workforce Initiative (TNWI) strives to strengthen San Mateo County nonprofits and support them in addressing pressing workforce development challenges. Through convenings, collaborative strategy design, and practical tools, TNWI brings together nonprofit leaders, cross-sector partners, and community stakeholders to raise visibility of workforce development challenges faced by local nonprofits, foster commitment from stakeholders to develop sustainable solutions, co-develop strategies tailored to community needs, and support organizations in building environments where staff feel valued, supported, and able to thrive.

As part of TNWI, Thrive Alliance hosts Quarterly Learning Sessions to provide nonprofit leaders and staff with actionable insights and peer learning in workforce development. Originating from our HR Learning Series, these sessions tackle the sector's most pressing challenges—including recruitment, retention, and building a culture of inclusion. The sessions offer a holistic roadmap for organizational health, focusing on People & HR Excellence, Strategic Board Governance, and a Culture of Belonging. Participants gain insights into competitive compensation, board leadership best practices, and the importance of equity and self-care, empowering nonprofits to thrive in an ever-changing landscape.
