One Billion Dollars for Arts Education: What Happens Next With Prop 28 Funds?
Wednesday, January 25, 1:00 - 3:00 pm, In-Person
On Nov. 8, Californians overwhelmingly passed Proposition 28, bringing a windfall of arts education funding to schools. While arts education is mandated in grades 1-12, each district must decide how to fund and implement it. The result has been inconsistent arts programming that leaves many children, especially those in low-income areas, with little exposure or access to the arts and creative forms of expression. Many dedicated and experienced arts education nonprofits have emerged to address this issue.
Prop. 28 will provide about $1 billion each year in funding to California public schools using 80% of the money on teachers and aides, and the balance will be used for art supplies and materials. How will this affect our nonprofit arts education providers?
Please join Thrive and the County of San Mateo Office of Arts & Culture for an enlightening one-hour panel discussion with Letty Kraus, Director of California County Superintendents Arts Initiative , and Allison Gamlen, Visual and Performing Arts Coordinator, San Mateo County’s Office of Education.
Following the discussion, we’ll have an open networking session for participants.
